Huge Cobalt Blue Glazed Terracotta Jar, 1980s

Huge Cobalt Blue Glazed Terracotta Jar, 1980s

A$150.00

A very large blue lidded jar, slip cast terracotta with luscious cobalt exterior glaze. Dates to the 1980s.

Tall enough to use as a side table - the lid is wide enough to hold a cup of coffee or wine and a novel (guess how I spend my evenings). It’s a very handsome piece of decorative pottery on a large scale, so use it as you wish.

I can’t vouch for the water fastness of the exterior glaze. If you wanted to use this pot as a vase, I strongly suggest you waterproof the inside, which is easily done with any pottery sealer from your local hardware.

This pot was used for many years by an Ikebana enthusiast, for the arrangement of dried branches which is a great way to show off your arranging skills and the punchy cobalt blue colour of the pot.
