Barovier Mattonella Chandelier, Italy c.1950

Barovier Mattonella Chandelier, Italy c.1950

A$0.00

Perfect for smaller apartments and lower ceilings, this chandelier is designed to completely hide the light source within and to cling quite closely to the ceiling, with a relatively short drop of 40cm.

The bricks that form this lovely chandelier are like slabs of ice that that you might find on the surface of a frozen pond. A conceptually adventurous and brilliantly executed design by the house of Barovier, from the late 1940s or early 1950s.

The chandelier consists of glass bricks or 'mattonella' arranged on a white enamelled iron frame. The bricks hang on the frame in two tiers, fixed by a set of brass rods and screw caps. The glass ceiling cup is held in place on the stem by a brass ring and screw.

Three globes are hidden behind a glass base plate. This is fixed to the frame on a threaded rod, finished with a brass band and glass finial.
