An earthenware carafe by Joe Finch, respected British studio potter. Wine-serving pottery was popular in the 1970s and 1980s but few were as well made or beautifully balanced and designed as this one. It's the work of a seriously good potter. It was made for table use and I hope it's filled with wine or water again soon.
Joe Finch is the son of Ray Finch of Winchcombe Pottery, where he began his career in 1964. Finch has a strong preference for wood firing. He has been based in West Wales since the early 1980s. This piece dates from that period.
Finch also worked with the storied Leach Pottery, Cornwall.
