Large Signed Alfredo Barbini Scavo Glass Bowl 1970s Blue White and Amethyst
Large Signed Alfredo Barbini Scavo Glass Bowl 1970s Blue White and Amethyst
Superb large example of Barbini 'Scavo' glass. ‘Scavo’ translates as ‘excavation’ - that is, glass finishes imitating ancient glass excavated in Italy.
The wonderfully finished glass is amethyst in colour, with cobalt blue highlights and areas of white and hotter pinks. Wonderful markings, colours and proportions.
Signature to base. This is largest size bowl of it’s typle by Barbini.
Barbini's Scavo works are among our favourite Italian glass designs. If you haven't tried it already, a grouping of Barbini's Scavo vessels together is mind-blowingly cool. The earthy aesthetic, glass that reads almost as more rugged, brutalist and solid. A new, raw and honest production by Barbini, whose previous works were super refined and glossy.
Things that make us love this bowl: the crystalline detail of the finish; the squat but elegant 1970s shape; the colours bleeding organically into each other over the surface; the deep cobalt blue touches.
