Original Mid Century European Baggage Labels, Framed 1950s
Mid-Century Travel Ephemera Graphic Design
A fun set of baggage labels commemorating a jet-setting post-war trip to Europe. Someone stayed in the coolest, kookiest places in England, France, Austria and Switzerland, and saved these labels as mementos. I think it was designed as a drinks tray but converted to a picture.
It’s a bit ski trip, a bit cold war spy novel and very much a good time. These are unique remnants of a bygone era.
The graphic art is charming. The labels are an object lesson in Mid Century colour usage, visual messaging and typeface character.
Labels are mounted on a beautifully dated laminate background, in a classic 50s frame. They look fab hanging over a bar trolley. They'll have you dreaming of the days of slow travel, cocktail hour and full service hotel stays.
Many of the hotels depicted are still running in their same old family business way.
