White Cased Glass Vase with Brown and Blue Inclusions, probably Italian, 1970s

White Cased Glass Vase with Brown and Blue Inclusions, probably Italian, 1970s
A white glass vase with dramatic encased swirls of blue and brown.
This vase borrows its shape and colour from several Scandinavian designers. The colour inclusions follow the work of Michael Bang for Holmegaard with his Atlantis and Sakura series which introduced swirled colour on opaline glass. The shape is based on the form of a Gulvase, the classic Holmegaard necked vase shape designed by Otto Brauer.
The style suggests the vase is from the late 1970s or early 1980s. Producer is unknown but possibly from a West German company imitating the Danish style, or potentially from Empoli, Italy. A tiny fragment of label to the base looks like those found on Empoli glass.
Edges of the swirl of colour have cracked in two places while cooling. Serious collectors won’t like this imperfection, but decorators will find the vase a very attractive piece.
A mystery, but a lovely thing to look at, and in very appealing colours.
MEASURES:
31cm H x 12cm Diameter
CONDITION:
An edge of the swirl of colour has cracked in two places while cooling. So there are several areas slightly raised and separated from the background white glass. These are fixed and not flaking off, but the edge is rough and a bit of reflection from the crack shows through. The final six images show this defect in detail.
