Bernini were the premier Italian cabinetmakers of the sixties and seventies. The list of designers collaborating to produce cabinets and tables, beds and sideboards is a who’s who of fine Italian design - Gianfranco Frattini, Scarpa, Vignelli, Silvio Coppola, Osvaldo Borsani and others.
One of those others was Antonio Rossin. While lesser known now, he was not considered any less important then.
This rare Bernini cabinet is one of Rossin’s signature trimmed-down, minimal designs, treated with maximal materialism. Wildly figured walnut, beech trim, contrasting tones, superb interior detail and function, simplicity, beauty, and a tidy footprint.
One of the great things about this cabinet, apart from it’s beautiful design, is it’s compact size and all-around finish. The back and sides are as streamlined and as beautifully finished as the front. It’s a whole object in itself, not merely a container.
You are very unlikely to ever see another - the rarest and finest of cabinets!
MEASURES:
126 cm long x 49 cm deep x 61 cm high
CONDITION:
Excellent condition, signs of wear to top and sides with multiple tiny bruises/dents to all surfaces per daily use, restoration to surface finish, protective coat of microcrystalline wax applied.
